Phenolic grating is an advanced composite grating manufactured with phenolic resin as the matrix combined with glass fibers, while ordinary fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) grating on the market is mostly based on unsaturated polyester or vinyl ester resin. The fundamental differences between them lie in fire resistance, temperature endurance, smoke emission during combustion, mechanical load-bearing performance, chemical corrosion resistance, production cost and applicable scenarios. When exposed to high heat, phenolic resin only carbonizes without melting or dripping, featuring extremely low flame spread index, minimal smoke release and no toxic fumes in combustion, high limiting oxygen index, and a long-term service temperature up to 150–200℃ with excellent structural integrity under high temperatures, as well as superior insulation and fatigue resistance, which makes it ideal for strict fire-safety environments including offshore platforms, petrochemical workshops, enclosed tunnels and flammable industrial sites with relatively higher material cost. Ordinary polyester-based FRP grating owns basic corrosion resistance, light weight, convenient processing and installation with lower production cost, yet its ordinary heat resistance is merely around 80℃; it tends to soften and melt when exposed to open flames with rapid flame spread and massive toxic smoke emission, along with limited fire rating, so it is only suitable for conventional industrial and civilian occasions without strict fireproof requirements such as wastewater treatment plants, general factory walkways, municipal platforms and light food processing workshops. Both types retain the universal advantages of FRP materials including light weight, electrical insulation, rust resistance and non-magnetism, while phenolic grating achieves comprehensive upgrading in high-temperature fire safety performance。
